In a first-of-its-kind case, a woman has been arrested for luring youths via texts and posts , to join militancy in Kashmir.
Shazia from Naidkhai in Sumbal area of Bandipore was nabbed by security agencies after intelligence monitored and confirmed her urging young men to “pick up weapons” and join Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit.
According to officials, the terror activity went beyond virtual media and Shazia has personally delivered ammunition and magazines to at least two youths from Anantnag, one of who has been taken into custody.
A video featuring Shazia had surfaced on Facebook a few months ago alleging she was a police informer. Based on her complaint, two youths were nabbed and let off with a warning.
However in truth, Shazia extracted information from police and other security agencies pretending to be helpful and passed them on to the militants, an officer, privy to the case, said on condition of anonymity.
Shazia is tight-lipped and has not divulged much except for name of militant commanders so far, sources close to the investigation said.
31-year-old Shazia’s arrest comes after a week of 28-year Aysia Jan for attempting to smuggle 20 grendades en route Lawaypora into the city. She was also in possession of ammunition at time of her arrest. Her two brothers were also detained in connection with militancy.
