Hours after being rapped by High Court on restraints imposed, the Kerala police lifted its ban on Sabarmala devotees camping at base camp late night into dawn.
Earlier authorities disallowed devotees proceeding to the shrine between 9.30 to 2 am.
The High Court had pulled up the govt on Tuesday, questioning it’s Sec 144 imposition in the region and hurled questions like why the devotees were stopped from resting at Valiya Nadapanthal and restrained at base camp during late hours.
The Court sought clarification on whom Sec 144 was applicable and also how authorities could tell devotees apart from protesters, in it’s zeal to implement the Supreme Court verdict.
Faced with the shake-up, the lawyer representing the govt said it would file an affidavit.
