Defamation case; Rahul Gandhi appeared before Surat court

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday appeared before Surat magistrate court to record his statement in a criminal defamation suit. The suit was filed by Surat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi over Mr. Gandhi’s alleged remark on the ‘Modi’ surname.

When the court asked if he had said all people with Modi surname are thieves, Mr. Gandhi claimed he never said such words.

Besides, to most of the remaining questions related to the evidence and statements of witnesses in the case, Mr. Gandhi said “I don’t know”.The reference was made in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This is Rahul Gandhi’s second appearance before Surat magistrate court. Rahul Gandhi made it clear that he hasn’t insulted anyone with the name ‘Modi’. The case adjourned for the 12th of next month.
