PAN-Aadhar linking deadline extended to 3 months

The government has again extended the time limit for linking PAN cards with Aadhaar. The government had earlier extended the deadline several times in view of the challenges faced by the people due to Covid.

The government has announced various relief measures for the taxpayers. It includes the extension of PAN and Aadhar linking to 30 September from 30 June. In case you fail to link PAN and Aadhar your PAN becomes inoperative.

In the Finance Bill 2021, the government has also introduced an amendment under which a person will be liable to pay a late fee of up to ₹1000 in case of non-linking of PAN with Aadhaar.

Currently, the last date for connecting with PAN Aadhaar is June 30.

This is the third time that the government has extended the last date for linking the two identification documents. 

As per Section 139AA, it is mandatory for every person to quote Aadhaar number in their income tax return and the application for the allotment of PAN, provided they are eligible to get Aadhaar.

The government has also extended the time limit for compliance with certain other provisions relating to the Income Tax Act.

Steps to link Pan Card with Aadhaar card:

  • Log on to the income tax e-filing website –
  • Click on the ‘link Aadhaar’ option 
  • Enter the correct Permanent Account Number, Aadhaar Number, and full name (as given in the Aadhaar card) in the designated fields.
  • Enter the details in the designated fields such as date of birth
  • Enter the correct captcha code
  • Choose the relevant option and click on the ‘link Aadhaar’ button at the bottom of the page
