Attacks against doctors going beyond the limits: IMA warns Govt

IMA has issued a strongly worded statement flagging its concerns over the issue of attacks on doctors in Kerala. In a joint statement issued by IMA President Dr. P T Zacharias and Secretary Dr. Gopikumar P has flagged that attacks against doctors are exceeding all limits.

IMA cannot ignore such intolerable instances and cannot remain a mute spectator, it is pinpointed in a statement.

Referring to the recent incident in which a lady doctor was attacked in Thiruvananthapuram, IMA has raised its concern over attacks against women doctors. Even during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is shocking that people assaulted a woman doctor and tore off her clothes in a state like Kerala, the statement noted.

IMA warned that situations are escalating to such a level that doctors are forced to mobilize for protests and agitations. It demanded that there should be stringent law and order implementation to ensure the safety of doctors in the state.

IMA has even urged the central government to introduce a new policy to curb attacks against doctors. IMA in its statement also expressed its shock over public apathy in condemning the attacks against the doctors.
