After dramatic events, discussions, and suggestions, the congress appointed the Dalit leader Charanjit Singh Channi as the Punjab Chief Minister. The former CM Amarinder Singh met the governor Banwarilal Purohit and tendered his resignation. The party high command asked Amarinder to resign from the post after a long spell of infighting in Punjab Congress.

When congress came into power, the word was given that the government would wipe out the drug menace and would bring to book the accused in the sacrilege case. But the problem has not yet been over and cases are still pending as files, sources said. The MLAs in the government were unhappy with Singh’s lack of access. After months of turmoil within the state unit, Amarinder Singh resigned as the Punjab chief minister. The new CM, Charanjit Singh Channi will be the first Dalit-Sikh chief minister ever in Punjab’s constituency. He will get his duties as Chief Minister on September 20. There were many names in the list of nominations for the new CM. Later Charanjit got his name on the priority list.
