WhatsApp working on cashback in a bid to push payments in India

It was earlier reported that WhatsApp would soon release a new feature called the in-app business directory feature that enables users to shop and get services in it. It is now reported that WhatsApp is testing and working on a feature for its in-app payments service. Redesigning the group info page, and adding a feature to quickly create icons for groups are the recent developments being done by the instant messaging app. Although it is working to offer cashback on payments to its users, the official declaration has not yet been done by the app.

The feature WhatsApp payments could be introduced exclusively for India and the feature is being tested for its UPI payments service in India.

The cashback feature showed an Rs. 10 cashback to WhatsApp Payments users on certain transactions, that apparently will be credited after 48 hours. WABetaInfo also says that users can get only one cashback and It’s not clear which users will get this cashback, or what other terms will be applied to this. Also, it isn’t clear though if this means WhatsApp will give you only one cashback throughout or one per payment. There’s also confusion over whether this cashback will be only for new users or existing users as well.

India’s UPI payments systems will work and can be made easier as per the WhatsApp new features and is clear that the cashback feature would be a way for WhatsApp to push its payments service in India. When you are opening the app, you can notice the message that  “Get cashback on your next payment.” You can tap on it to get started.
