Kerala student receives Intel Artificial Intelligence Global Award

A three-member Indian team including a Malayalee student won the Intel Artificial Intelligence Global Award, which was contested by 240 teams from 20 countries across the globe.

Niharika Haridas, a first-year Btech student from Vellore Institute of Technology along with the team comprising Rishikesh Amit Naik from Odisha and Hidon Jacob Samuel from Tamil Nadu have bagged the award. The award was announced at the Intel Al Global Impact Festival 2021 in artificial intelligence.

They have developed a microbial pest prediction technology used for accurate farming practices using artificial intelligence. This is a technology that benefits the agricultural sector. “We had high hopes and we are proud of this award. It was a breath-taking moment for us to see India’s name on the screen. So happy to be part of this,” said Niharika.

The teams were evaluated by the Intel Expert Jury Panel and the panel of experts selected the team that deserves the award in a competition held from October 15 to 30. Moreover, the award winners would receive 5,000 dollars as prize money, Intel-powered laptop, mentorships, and internships with Intel.

Niharika hails from Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, and her father Haridas PV, Assistant Accounts Officer, Aegis Office, Thiruvananthapuram. Niharika’s father commented on her award, “ Iam extremely happy for Niharika’s victory. She has got good exposure with this ward. I have watched the entire teams’ hard work on this and definitely, they are deserved to get the award.”
