Vitamin D deficiency; Here are the symptoms and remedies that you need to consider

For the healthy functioning of the body, it requires a variety of nutrients. One of the nutrients is Vitamin D, where experts say that the deficiency causes severe health problems. Vitamins are nutrients that our body gets not only from food but also directly from sunlight.

During the Covid pandemic time, many of us were working from home as the offices were shut during the times. Therefore, the chances of getting exposed to sunlight were rare and that resulted in a vitamin D deficiency in many. As per data, about 1 billion people worldwide have low blood levels of the vitamin, which makes them more prone to loss of bone density, muscle weakness, and fatigue. 

Here are some of the symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency:

  1. Infections and immune system disorders are some of the symptoms of the deficiency.
  1.  The lack of it causes rickets in children and weakens their muscles. 
  2.  The signs and symptoms might include fatigue, muscle cramps. Also, head getting sweating always is an early symptom of vitamin D deficiency.
  1. In some cases, the deficiency can lead to hair loss.

About 80% of the vitamin D needed by the body comes from sunlight. About 20% is derived from food. Being exposed to the sun for about 15-20 minutes three days per week is usually sufficient and it can be considered as the first remedy. The food that you intake has also a major role in preserving vitamin D in your body.  The foods that you should include are cheese, egg yolks in your diet, and drinking milk regularly also helps overcome the deficiency problem.

In summers it is still easy to get the daily recommended RDI(the daily recommended dietary intake) for the vitamin D through exposure to sunlight.  When the skin is exposed to sunlight, our body converts cholesterol to the D vitamin. The major problem in the winter months. In the cold season, you have to stay longer in the Sun to get enough nutrients. people living in countries where there are extreme climate fluctuations, often take pills during the winter season.
