Kangana, Karan Johar, PV Sindhu honoured with the prestigious Padma awards
In a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the capital, Olympian PV Sindhu, actor Kangana Ranaut, filmmaker Karan Johar, producer Ekta Kapoor, women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal were honored with coveted Padma Awards.
The handing over of the award is the responsibility of president Ram Nath Kovind. Late BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, and late singer SP Balasubramaniam were also conferred with the award posthumously.
Kangana received the award for portraying strong women-centric roles whereas Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor were being honored for their contribution to the field of performing arts.
Other prominent names who have been honored with the prestigious civilian awards include producer singers Suresh Wadkar and Adnan Sami, Hindustani classical exponent Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, former head scientist at ICMR Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, Air Marshal Dr. Padma Bandopadhyay among others.
After receiving the award, Kangana took her Instagram page to share it. The post read: “Four times National Award winner Kangana Ranaut to be honored with the fourth highest civilian honored ‘Padma Shri’ on 8th November in New Delhi.”
