Squid Game Season 2; Creators say the work is underway

The widely recognized Netflix series, Squid game is ready for its second season. When the media asked about the details regarding the second season, the director replied “I will promise you this, Gi-hun will come back. He’ll do something for the world.”

Due to the global success of the first season, the director plans for the second season, and fans are eagerly waiting to know they are left with many questions. So far, the nine-part Netflix global sensation has been watched by more than 110 million people internationally and became the company’s most-watched series launch in its history since it premiered in September.

Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season.” 

The South Korean survival drama television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix revolves around a contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial debt, risk their lives to play a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win a South Korean won 45.6 billion prizes. Squid Game focused on the societal gap between the poor and the rich and showcased how far people were willing to go for greed.

Although director Hwang Dong-hyuk had initially written it in 2009, he was unable to find a production company to fund the idea until Netflix took an interest around 2019 as part of their drive to expand their foreign programming offerings. All nine episodes were written and directed by Hwang.  The director has said the production’s relatability has been a key factor to its success.

Despite talks, there is no legal confirmation about season 2 of this series by Netflix. A person from the streaming service said that they are thinking about season 2 but they did not make any decision yet. This series, the first season of ‘Squid Game’ was released on the 17th of September 2021.
