52nd IFFI: Films lined up for competition, two Malayalam movies to feature in Indian panorama

The 52nd International Film Festival of India(IFFI) which opened on November 20 screened filmmaker Aimee Baruah’s Semkhor in the feature film category and Rajiv Prakash’s Ved The Visionary in the non-feature film category. Like the 51st edition, this year’s edition was also held in a hybrid format, that combined online and face-to-face participation.

The 52nd International Film Festival of India has released a line-up of international movies for competition during the festival. The best feature-length fiction films from all over the world are selected to compete in the section, also two Malayalam movies were selected to feature in the Indian panorama.

BRICS Film Festival is being held alongside the main festival, in which films from BRICS nations, namely Brazil, Russia, South Africa, China, and India are showcased. These five countries are ‘country of focus’ in the 52nd edition of the festival. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurated the sidebar section, which will see the screening of a total of 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films. 

In this year’s edition of IFFI, only two Malayalam films have got a place in the Indian panoramic section and they are Jayaraj’s ‘Niraye Thathakalulla Maram’ and Ranjith Sankar’s ‘Sunny’. Along with these Malayalam movies, the Hindi movie ‘Alpha Beta Gamma’ directed by Shankar Srikumar will also be screened in Indian Panorama.

The opening ceremony on 20 November 2021, hosted by Karam Johar and, Manish Paul was aired live and was also streamed live on YouTube. The festival will close on 28 November with Asghar Farhadi’s film ‘A Hero’.
