Parag Agrawal becomes the new Twitter CEO; Here’re other tech giants led by Indian origins

Replacing Jack Dorsey, Parag Agrawal has been appointed as the new Twitter CEO on November 29. With the appointment, the Indian-origin Parag is the youngest CEO in the top 500 companies. The 37-year-old is a former IIT Bombay student and he is also the chief technology officer of Twitter and will soon serve as the CEO after the departure of co-founder Jack Dorsey.

Several statements have been made on the resignation of Jack Dorsey but Dorsey said he wants to prepare the way for the new CEO Parag Argawal to take over and doesn’t want to stand in his way. Dorsey was already among the dozen youngest CEOs in the collection of the largest U.S. companies.

Parag Agrawal- The new CEO

Parag Agrawal is an Indian-American technology executive. He did his graduation from IIT-Bombay and Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University. Agrawal joined Twitter as a distinguished software engineer in 2011 and became the chief technology officer in 2017. Before his role with Twitter, he did research internships at AT&T, Microsoft, and Yahoo. At Twitter, he worked on ad-related products, but gradually he also dabbled in artificial intelligence. 

Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Parag built his career graph in a consecutive way. His father was a senior official in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy and his mother is a retired school teacher.

Agrawal is now one among the group of Indian-origin silicon valley CEOs which includes the name of Google CEO in it.
