The official release date of the film was announced by Film Development Corporation and Chalachitra Academy minister Saji Cheriyan earlier this month. The decision was taken after a meeting with stakeholders at the office of Saji Cheriyan.
The release date of the film, which was earlier planned on 26th March 2020 got extended due to the surge of Covid-19. It was then rescheduled and postponed through three more dates in March, May, and August 2021 before settling on release date by the end of the year. Despite the concerns about the theatre and OTT releases, the film bagged national awards in different categories. The film received awards for Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and Best Costume Design.
The film, which is considered to be director Priyadarshan’s most coveted one so far, has been cut solely to give the audience an idea about the scale and scope of the movie. Setting up with the old-fashioned type of clothing, weapons, and accessories, the director managed to brilliantly recreate the bygone era of the Portuguese time.
With spectacular camera work, compelling background score, and majestic production, the grand trailer is a visual magnificence. Marakkar that has completed all the formalities is set for a grand release in Telugu through Suresh Productions on December 3rd.
Antony’s announcement caused a lot of distress among exhibitors in Kerala as they expected Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham to bring back the crowds to theatres amid the ongoing pandemic. Later, the Kerala government intervened and convinced Antony to release the film theatrically first before taking it to OTT.
