11-year-old girl with down syndrome gets bullied in Macedonia; Country’s president walks her to school

It is a clear scene of sweet gesture as a bullied girl from her class citing her down syndrome was taken back to the school by the country President. The humble gesture happened in North Macedonia when the country’s President Stevo Pendarovski escorted an 11-year-old girl who was suffering from down syndrome to her school. The empathy shown by the President to the girl named Embla Adeni is now being hailed by the entire country.

President Pendarovski came to know that Embla Ademi has been facing discrimination at her school due to down syndrome. He met the child and walked her to elementary school, Edinstvo, in the city of Gostivar. Holding her hand, the man took the girl to school, and he even gifted some books to the girl when he met her and her family at their home. President spoke to the girl’s family to understand the day-to-day challenges they face, including bullying, and encouraged them “in their fight for the protection of the rights of children”, an official statement added.

The video of this incident has been widely shared where there can be seen that the man comes to Embla’s house, meets her family, and after gifting her books, he takes her back to the school. The president himself took his Instagram to post the video. “Embla’s case reminds us of the prejudices we live with and the need for greater protection and cares for children with disabilities,” he wrote in the caption.

Underlining that no child should be left behind, he asserted that children with special needs should not only enjoy the rights they deserve but also feel equal and welcome in their places of learning. The President said that the behavior of those who endanger children’s rights is unacceptable, especially when it comes to children with atypical development.
