India lost to South Africa in ICC women’s world cup 2022; Fail to qualify Semi

India knocked out of Women’s World Cup 2022. The West Indies qualified for the semi-finals after losing the last group match against South Africa by India. India’s 275 – run target was surpassed by South Africa with three wickets in hand. Laura Wolvaardt is South Africa’s top scorer with 80 runs. Mignon du Preez remained unbeaten on 52, NDTV reported.

Despite the absence of key bowler Jhulan Goswami, India struggled and tried hardly till the last minute to get through the window of the semi-finals. South Africa on the other hand made full use of it and won the match with on the last ball. After dramatic moments by both the teams, South Africa was on the last ball secured to achieve the victory. However, needing 7 runs off the last over, Deepti Sharma kept things tight before claiming a wicket on a no-ball, resulting in a free-hit. 

Harmanpreet Kaur, who took two crucial wickets, gave up two excellent run-outs, and scored 48 runs with the bat, was the most positive for India in all areas of the game. Chloe Tyrone also batted well in the final overs. Tyron, who scored 17 off just 9 balls, was dismissed in the 48th over.

Batting first, India lost 7 wickets for 274 runs in 50 overs. Smriti Mandana (71) was India’s top scorer with Mithali Raj (68) and Shafali Verma (53). India was 234 for three at stumps in the final overs. For South Africa, Shabnim Ismail and Masabata Klaas took 2 wickets each.

Moreover, Australia, which finished first in the first semi-final, will face the last-placed West Indies. Australia, South Africa, England, West Indies make the final four and will play the semis. The second semi is between South Africa and England in the women’s world cup 2022.
