Former Kerala Finance Minister T Sivadasa Menon passes away at 90

Senior CPI(M) leader and former finance minister of Kerala, T Sivadasa Menon passed away at the age of 90. He was undergoing treatment at the Aster MIMS Hospital in Kozhikode. He was undergoing treatment due to an age-related illness. 

T.Sivadasa Menon, who entered politics through student politics from Victoria College, Palakkad, has twice been a minister in EK Nayanar’s cabinet. He handled the departments of finance, Power, and Rural Development in the Cabinet. He entered politics by making a strong intervention in organizing teachers’ unions in the state. Menon represented the Malampuzha legislative constituency from 1987 to 2001.

Menon’s mortal remains will be brought to his daughter’s house at Manjeri in the Malappuram district on district on June 28. The funeral will be held with state honors at 10.30 am on June 29. He was a teacher at KTM High School, Mannarkkad for 30 years and entered into politics after forming Kerala Private Teachers’ Union.

From 1996 to 2001, he was in charge of the Department of Finance and Excise. Though several controversies engulfed the government due to the financial crisis the state went through then, Sivadasa Menon confronted all polemics with his diplomatic skills. His wife Bhavani Amma passed away in 2003. His two children are T K Lakshmi Devi and Kalyanikutty.
