HC orders CBI probe into Kalabhavan Mani’s death.


The Kerala High Court today ordered Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to make fresh investigations into the death of  45-year-old actor Kalabhavan Mani, who died on March 6, 2016. The directive came based on a plea filed by the actor’s brother K R Ramakrishnan.

Government in a statement filed before the court, ruled out homicide and relied on post-mortem findings stating Mani as suffering from severe cirrhosis of liver, jaundice , kidney dysfunction and sever Type 2 diabetics mellitus. With in-depth probe into details preceding actor’s death , possibility of suicide too was ruled out, the statement said.

3The news was welcomed by Ramakrishnan. “I am pleased. It’s what we as a family wanted all along.” he said.

Mani lapsed into serious condition during a small party at his farmhouse at Chalakudy. He was rushed to hospital by friends present, but died soon on being admitted with haematemesis(vomiting of blood).

CBI had earlier refused the probe citing heaps of pending cases awaiting disposal

Nanthancode Murders : Cult motivated massacre ?


Cadell Jeansen Raja has confessed to the killings, but police aren’t sure about what drove the  youngster to slaughter members of his own family so brutally.

Satanic experiment ?

Cadell cites ‘astral projection’, an act of separating the ‘astral body’ (soul)  from the physical body, as motive for murders. Astral body according occultism, soul is capable of traveling outside the body throughout the universe.


It’s a  phenomenon  not backed by any scientific evidence, but finds cult believers.  Cadell claims “I killed them to experiment with astral projection.”

His strange narrations and lack of  emotion prompted police to call in medical experts including top psychiatrist Trivandrum Medical college , Dr. Mohan Roy.Cadell says unknown to his family, he has been into ‘Satan Worship’ for 10 years.

Medics say they need a  10-day observation stint, to evaluate Cadell’s  mental condition.

Cadell was a quiet person

4Cadel had no friends and neighbours who only knew him from a distance, described him as a ‘quiet and gentle person who spoke softly and kept to himself’.

Mostly glued to the computer, he rarely spoke at home or did his parents converse with him. This is spoken to have been the atmosphere all along , that is even before Cadell left to pursue courses abroad.

The maid who worked at home says she has never heard a quarrel or even argument on part of Cadell, including Saturday, the day before massacre.

Mystery house


According to people, upstairs of the house, where  family lived, always appeared mysterious. It was shut to visitors and the family came down to have food  or if  there was someone to meet.

Windows to the outside too remained shut all day long and gloominess lurked. Cadell while at home  rarely left for outside.


Cadell will be produced before magistrate today after which he will be brought to crime scene to gather evidence.

Cadell has been booked under section 302 (murder), section 436( mischief with fire or explosive with intent to destroy house) and section 201 (giving false information or destroying evidence)


5In early hours of Sunday, smoke emanated from Cadell’s multi-storied house at Nanthancode, Trivandrum. Alerted by a neighbor, police arrived on the scene to discover mutilated and burnt bodies of  Cadell’s father, a retired professor Rajthankam, aged 60, his mother,  retired doctor,  Jean Padma aged 58,  his sister Carolyn, 25, and a relative Lalitha aged 70. Cadell fled to Chennai but returned to be nabbed from Thampanur railway station on Monday.

Jio launches Dhan Dhana Dhan in place of Summer Surprise

Reliance Jio has announced its new plan  – Dhan Dhana Dhan – to replace Summer Surprise it withdrew on Monday.

The details of the plan listed on Jio’s website states that Jio Prime subscribers will get 84GB for 84 days on a first recharge of Rs 309, while those who recharge for Rs 509 will get 168GB for 84 days.

Effectively this means, the new plan offers its prime members 1GB data per day at 4G speeds for 84 days at Rs309 .  And for high data usage customers, Rs. 509  plan will give  unlimited SMS, calls and data (2GB a day at 4G speeds) for three months.

“Considering the special benefits that are available to Jio Prime members, customers who were unable to subscribe to Jio Prime for any reason, can continue to do so by paying Rs408 or Rs608 to avail these benefits,” Jio said.

Following a directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India., Reliance was forced to withdraw its Summer Surprise offer  which offered  free services for 3 months at  Rs. 303.

Big blow : SC disallows compensatory tariff to Adani and Tata Power.

Putting an end to decade-long speculation if power companies are entitled to charge ‘compensatory tariff’’ from consumers, the Supreme Court  today hammered  a clear NO.

It started in 2010 when Indonesia made changes in trade regulations  affecting importers Adani Power and Tata Power, who made bulk coal purchases there for their multi-million power projects in Gujarat

The two companies claimed that the competitive bids were won on conditions  prior to Indonesia’s changed regulations.

However Apex Court ruled that the altered situation was not a happening in India, hence no compensatory tariff could be levied from users here.

Jadhav’s execution will be taken as pre-meditated murder. India warns.

India issued  stern warning today against execution of Kulbhushan Jadhav, saying it will be taken for ‘pre-meditated murder’ and will have its consequences reflected in  bilateral ties.

“There is no evidence of wrongdoing by Jadhav. If anything, he is the victim of a plan that seeks to cast aspersions on India to deflect international attention from Pakistan’s well-known record of sponsoring and supporting terrorism,” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a statement in both Houses of Parliament.

The minister proceeded to say, the people of India view sentencing of an innocent citizen to death with grave concern and the govt. will provide best of lawyers for Jadhav in the apex court in Pakistan.

Without mincing words on hostile aftermath, Sushma said “I  caution the Pakistan Pakistan government to consider the consequences for our bilateral relationship if they proceed on this matter,”

111The minister slammed the trial court procedure stating  “The process adopted by the Pakistani military court award the death sentence tells us a lot about the farcical nature of the alleged proceedings which have led to indefensible verdict against an innocent kidnapped Indian.”

Fire engulfs migrants camp in France.

Huge fire blazed through a  camp housing 1,500 migrants during a fight between Afghans and Kurds yesterday. The inferno has left at least 10 persons injured.

Crammed huts  at Grande-Synthe camp in northern France, where fire  destroyed nearly everything has been venue to frequent  unrest in the past.

Last November, a man had been stabbed to death brawls are everyday affair. Yesterday’s fight that started the blaze has  left six men with knife wounds.

Owing to periodic violence , officials had planned to dismantle the camp last month.

“There is nothing left but a heap of ashes,” said Michel Lalande, prefect of France’s Nord region. “It will be impossible to put the huts back where they were before,” he added.

The French north coast has been a magnet for migrants trying to reach Britain.

Malala becomes youngest UN Messenger of Peace

At 19 years,  Malala Yousafzai , who is doing her A-levels at a university in UK has been made the youngest Messenger of Peace by UN.

In 2012 Malala  escaped death in a near-fatal attack by Taliban  for her campaigning  of girls’ rights to education . She was on her way back from school in her hometown in Pakistan, when shot by insurgents.

Accepting the accolade in New York, she said: “(Bringing change) starts with us and it should start now.”

“If you want to see your future bright, you have to start working now (and) not wait for anyone else,”  she added.

United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres described her as a “symbol of perhaps the most important thing in the world – education for all”.

UN Messengers of Peace are selected from the fields of art, literature, science, entertainment, sports or other fields of public life.

Previous  messengers  include  Muhammad Ali, George Clooney, Michael Douglas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Stevie Wonder and Charlize Theron.

Son who killed family confesses : Nanthancode Murders.

Cadell Jeansen Raja, who murdered his parents, sister and a relative before burning their bodies, has been arrested from Thampanoor Railway station on Monday. He has confessed to the killings though the motive behind nanthancode murders is not clear.

According to police, the murders have been planned meticulously. There was smoke emanating from the house past mid-night on Sunday when police arrived on the scene, after a neighborhood call to Museum station.

Among those found dead were Cadell’s father, a retired professor Rajthankam, aged 60, his mother, retired doctor, . Jean Padma aged 58, his sister Carolyn, 25, and a relative Lalitha aged 70.


6Three of the bodies were charred beyond recognition while one was found in the bathroom, hacked and stuffed into a sack. Police also recovered blood-stained weapons from the upper-storey of the house.
1Cadell 30, is an MBBS dropout and pursued engineering course in Australia which he discontinued mid-way. Later he switched to animation course and went on to develop a games search engine for a company there. Cadell is employed with an Australian firm and was on vacation.
44The police also discovered a half-burnt dummy made of clothes, iron rods and plastic from the house, presumably to mislead that entire family was dead. The murders according to police sources seem motivated by Satan worship, though Cadell is yet to reveal reasons for the gruesome killings.
Cadell was nabbed by Railway Police Force following look-out notice put up extensively through the state and outside.

Pakistan sentences Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for alleged spying.

A Pakistani court has sentenced former navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav for spying for India, Pakistan’s  military’s Inter-services Publicity wing (ISPR)reported.

3Jadhav was arrested on March 3 last year on charges of being a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)  agent. Accusations against the officer ranged from waging war against country to sabotaging the $46-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The charges also included coordinating espionage and supporting  Baloch separatist movement.

“He confessed before a magistrate and the court that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organize espionage / sabotage activities aiming to destabilize and wage war against Pakistan by impeding the efforts of Law Enforcement Agencies for restoring peace in Balochistan and Karachi.”

Pakistan Army had also released a “confessional video”  where Jadhav, is heard as saying that he served the Indian Navy. Further in  video, Jadhav claims  he arrived in Iran in 2003 and started a small-time business in Chahbahar.

New Delhi dismissed all allegations and  repeated it has no contact with Jadhav. Jadhav, according to Pakistan,  had an Iranian residency permit and his passport name  is Hussain Mubarak Patel with birth place  stated Sangli in  Maharashtra.

Last December, Pakistan’s foreign policy adviser Sartaj Aziz told the upper house of Parliament that  “dossier on Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav contained mere statements” and contained no conclusive evidence. Pakistan denied the matter  within hours.

India has continually raised concerns over Jadhav’s detention and requested extradition or consular access.

Third Gender should be allowed ‘to use toilets of their choice’ : Guideline.

Addressing the third gender unhappiness over accessing public facilities, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation today  issued a Circular saying third-gender should be allowed to use public toilet facility of their choice (men or women).

The guidelines provide for inclusion of the third-gender in Swachh Bharat Mission. It says “Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) should make a conscious effort that they are recognised as equal citizens and users of toilets. They should be allowed to use the facility of their choice (men or women)”
